A: Not necessarily. U.S. clothing manufacturers are required by law to provide care labels on apparel. However, they often only recommend dry cleaning to protect themselves from consumer claims of damage. If the label reads “Dry Clean ONLY” you should take the garment to the drycleaners. If the label reads “Dry Clean” and the garment is simply constructed (i.e. no linings or decorative trim) you may have the option to wash it in the gently cycle.
